Sharpen Your Callsign Skills with CT1ILT’s Callsign Trainer

Filipe Lopes, CT1ILT, is a well-known contester who regularly participates in the major international contests, often operating under the callsign CR6K.

Filipe has created a very useful online Callsign Trainer, designed to help radio amateurs improve callsign recognition and typing speed, for both CW and SSB operation.

Fast and accurate callsign copying is one of the key skills in contesting, especially when dealing with high-rate pileups. This trainer provides a simple and effective way to practice and improve both speed and accuracy.

The concept is straightforward: listen, recognize the callsign, type it, and repeat.

It’s simple, effective… and surprisingly addictive!

A great training tool for experienced contesters as well as operators who want to sharpen their skills before the next contest.

Give it a try and see how fast you can get!

Türkiye HF Contest 2026 – CW and SSB on the Air This Weekend

The Türkiye HF Contest returns this weekend, August 22–23, 2026, for its second edition, bringing an important new feature to the international contesting calendar: CW joins SSB, making the event a CW, SSB and Mixed-mode competition.

The contest will run for 24 hours, from 06:00 UTC on Saturday, August 22 to 06:00 UTC on Sunday, August 23, and is open to radio amateurs worldwide.

Activity will take place on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 metres, with a wide range of Single Operator categories in CW, SSB and Mixed, as well as Multi-Operator categories.

For DX stations, QSOs with Turkish stations are particularly valuable, while Turkish provinces and DXCC countries count as multipliers on each band. Another interesting feature is the additional incentive for low-band activity, with valid contacts on 160 and 80 metres receiving double QSO points.

In the Mixed categories, the same station can also be worked on the same band in both CW and SSB, with both contacts counting for QSO points.

Following its first edition in 2025, the addition of CW represents an important step in the development of this young contest. It will be interesting to see whether the new format succeeds in attracting more operators and increasing overall activity.

An Interesting Calendar Overlap

There is another interesting aspect to this contest weekend.

The Türkiye HF Contest partially overlaps with the YO DX HF Contest, another well-established European event taking place on the same weekend.

The Türkiye HF Contest runs from 06:00 UTC Saturday to 06:00 UTC Sunday, while the YO DX HF Contest starts at 12:00 UTC on Saturday and continues until Sunday.

This creates an 18-hour overlap, during which both contests will generate CW and SSB activity across many of the same HF bands.

For operators, this means paying particular attention to the exchange being received and correctly identifying which contest a station is participating in. At the same time, having two international events running simultaneously should contribute to a particularly active weekend on the European HF bands.

We Will Be Watching the Log Submissions

From a contesting perspective, the overlap also creates an interesting situation that will be worth following after the weekend.

We are curious to see the number of submitted logs for both the Türkiye HF Contest and the YO DX HF Contest.

The comparison will be particularly interesting for the Türkiye HF Contest, which is only in its second edition and has expanded from its original SSB format to include CW.

Will the introduction of CW bring a significant increase in participation? And how will the simultaneous YO DX HF Contest affect activity and log submissions?

We will have the answers once the submission periods are over.

For now, there is only one thing to do:

Turn on the radio and enjoy a very busy contest weekend!

See you on the bands!

2026 CQ WPX CW Results

The official results of the 2026 CQ WPX CW Contest have been released, confirming another strong edition of one of the world’s most popular CW competitions.

The 2026 contest generated 5,711 submitted logs from 6,473 participants representing 141 DXCC entities. It was also the third consecutive year in which CQ WPX CW received more than 5,000 logs, confirming the continued strength of worldwide participation.

Solar Cycle 25 was clearly beginning to change the competitive landscape. Compared with 2025, activity on 15 and 10 metres dropped by nearly 40%, while operators found increased productivity on 20 and 40 metres. Geomagnetic conditions were also unsettled at several stages of the weekend, adding another strategic variable to the contest.

More than 5,000 Single Operator entries

Single Operator participation remained the backbone of CQ WPX CW, with 5,180 entries.

All Band Low Power was the most popular choice, while 20 metres became the most popular single-band category.

As in the SSB leg, relatively few operators used the entire 36-hour allowance. Fifty-nine percent completed their operation within 12 hours, 87% had stopped by 24 hours, while only 125 All Band and 23 Single Band entrants operated the full 36 hours.

EUHFC 2026 Sets a New Participation Record!

The EUHF Championship 2026 (EUHFC) has set a new all-time participation record, with an impressive 1,616 logs received!

The previous record was set in 2025, with 1,528 logs. The 2026 edition therefore represents an increase of 88 logs (+5.8%) in just one year.

Even more significant is the comparison with 2020, when the EUHFC received 1,515 logs. That edition took place during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, when many amateur radio contests experienced an exceptional increase in participation as operators were forced to stay at home.

Now, six years later, EUHFC has surpassed that extraordinary 2020 figure under normal conditions, reaching a new record of 1,616 logs.

This is a very strong indication of the continued popularity and international appeal of the EUHF Championship.

Congratulations to the EUHFC team and, above all, to the 1,616 stations that took part and submitted their logs!

The EUHFC is growing — and 1,616 is the new benchmark.

73 and good contesting!

WAE DX Contest CW 2026: Nearly 1,500 Logs Received

The Worked All Europe DX Contest (WAEDC) CW 2026 has once again confirmed its position as one of the major events on the international HF contesting calendar.

Following the end of the log submission period, the official DARC Contest Hub currently lists an impressive 1,474 received and classified logs for the 2026 CW edition. (Darc)

The logs are distributed among the different categories as follows:

  • Single Operator Low Power: 796 logs
  • Single Operator High Power: 544 logs
  • Multi Operator: 35 logs
  • Checklogs: 99 logs

The two Single Operator categories alone account for 1,340 entries, showing once again how popular the CW leg of the WAE remains among individual operators around the world.

The 2026 WW Digi and CQ WW RTTY Contests: Important Rule Changes

The 2026 World Wide contest season is about to enter one of its busiest periods, with two major events approaching:

  • World Wide Digi DX Contest — August 29–30, 2026
  • CQ World Wide RTTY DX Contest — September 26–27, 2026

Contest Director Ed W0YK recently reminded participants that this is a particularly good time to review the rules carefully.

It may sound obvious, but experienced contesters know how easily details from different contests can be confused. Operating-time restrictions, minimum off-times, band-change rules, category definitions and log-submission deadlines can vary considerably from one event to another.

And in 2026 there is another reason to read the rules again: some important changes are becoming part of the World Wide contest environment.

Two of them deserve particular attention:

1- the 48-hour log submission deadline
and
2- the explicit prohibition of autonomous operation.

Both concepts had already been introduced earlier this year in the WPX contests and are now appearing in other major competitions.
